ANTIGUA
AND BARBUDA
![]() The next morning we were docked at St. John's on Antiqua. It was fairly early and there were many roosters crowing. |
|
| There are a couple of non-water slides on the ship that I went down, getting very dizzy by the time I got to the bottom of this one. |

| Getting off the ship in St. John's, you are led to this area with shops. That is not unusual in these small port towns. |
![]() |
| This steel drum band was playing a variety of pop songs. |
![]() |
| There's nothing particularly interesting about this. I just like the sign. |
![]() |
| My sister slipped on some slick pavement. A few big scrapes, but not much blood. |
![]() |
| There really is not much near the port in St. John's. There is a girl's high school. |

There have been three St. John's Cathedrals on this site. The first was
built in 1681 and damaged in an earthquake in 1745. The second was built in 1746 and also damaged in an earthquake in 1843. This third one was completed in 1848 and still stands. |

| A little lizard, just like the ones we had in South Florida. There are still those lizards in Florida but I am not anymore. |

| The Museum of Antigua and Barbuda is in the former St. John's Courthouse, built in 1750. |

| Lots of people on cruises go to the beaches to sit in the sun and drink adult beverages or go snorkeling or other such activities. I like wandering around. St. John's is not exactly the most picturesque of locations, but it was interesting to see just average streets and neighborhoods. |

| Not much to see here. Just the post office. It does seem strange to me that all of the post office boxes are outside. |
![]() |
| This had to be one of those fancy boutique cruises on a sailing ship. |
![]() |
|
A look at the town from the ship. There were several movie channels on the ship's television. I got to see Asteroid City. |
![]() |
| While we were in the cabin we noticed a fire near one of the beaches. I don't know if it is a beach where people would spend time as it is an industrial-looking area. |
![]() |
| The fire truck had a bit of trouble with the roundabout. |
![]() |
| Rat Island Battery on the top of the hill. I think it used to be an island, but that a causeway leading to it has been expanded to make it more of a peninsula now. It was once home to a simple fort, then a large-scale barracks, a leper colony and a rum distillery. As you can see, the area around has been developed to handle cargo. |

| Way over there, which would have been an hour walk from the port, is the ruins of Fort James. I looked at some comments online before we got there and they seemed to say that it was not terribly well preserved, so a long walk there might not have been worth it. We would take a walk later to another fort on a different island. |

| As we departed, there were some sand bars in the distance. |
![]() |
| Caribbean sunset. |
![]() |
| The show on the ship was the musical "Beetlejuice". |
