| I had originally planned to go a place called Dead Horse State Park, but I called a last minute audible. |

| For some reason I thought that the entrance to Canyonlands National Park was farther away, but on my way to Dead Horse I noticed that the Canyonlands entrance was just a little farther down the road. Since I already had the National Park annual pass, it would not cost anything more. |

| That road, the Shafer Trail, hugs the walls of Shafer Canyon as it quickly drops 1400 feet. The uranium boom of the 1950's changed the face of the canyon. The trail was upgraded to accommodate trucks hauling mining equipment and ore. |

| Upheaval Dome. It is a bit of a mystery. The rock layers are fractured and tilted, forming a circular depression more than two mile wide. There are two theories. One is that a salt dome cracked and tilted the rock over time. The other is that it is a violent meteorite impact instantly fractured the rock. |

 Green River Overlook. There was a bus stopped here and a lot of old people milling about. I saw quite a few old people on the trip. I guess the west is a popular stop for older tourists. Well, it is for me. |
