PIKES PEAK

I planned to get an early start as I had an entry time at Pikes Peak for 8:00 a.m. The night before I realize I forgot to pack an iPad charging cable so I stopped at a local Target on the way out of town.
I must have taken a wrong turn somewhere because I ended up at the North Pole.
It is actually a little amusement park. There was free admission that day for some reason but it was not open yet and I wasn't all that interested anyway.
Here's some nightmare fuel for you.
Trees and rocks, rocks and trees. Colorado is lousy with them.
The sign only references a creature "resembling" Big Foot, not actual Big Foot. For all we know, it could just be Marv.
A postcard photo of a nice little lake and Pikes Peak in the distance.
It's not a visitor center or a lodge. It's a gift shop and small cafe.
The first look at snow. It's June.
The road goes all the way to the top, but as it was early there was ice that was being cleared beyond this point. Therefore I was unable to get to the summit. I couldn't really wait for them to eventually open up the rest of the road.

So the farthest I got was Devil's Playground and 16-Mile Turnout, elevation 12,780 feet. That's almost two and a half miles up. Yeah, the air was quite thin up here as well.
There may have been a reason I took this photo. For the life of me, I don't know what it was.
People can keep their beach holidays where they sit on the beach and drink beer. Give me scenery like this.
