| The cupola is attributed to a conductor who, in 1863, discovered that he could see his train much better if he sat on boxes and peered through a hole in the roof of the caboose. Trainmen could watch for smoke from the wheel journals or other signs of trouble safely from the cupola. |

| This soda fountain was patented in 1898 and was originally located in the Hunter Palmer Drug Store in Cañon City, Colorado. It dispensed natural soda water, carbonated water and plain water. |

| Leaving the South Park City park, this
is the Old Park County Courthouse. It was erected in 1874, two years
before Colorado became a state. Fairplay is one of the highest towns I visited at 9,953. I didn't feel particularly out of breath though. |
