| Okay, so I investigated the Allen
County Jail Museum well ahead of time, checking online when tours
were available. There was a website that said Tuesday through
Saturday at 1:30 and 3:30. I got there a little before 3:30 to find
the door locked and the sign indicating only 1:30. But the sign had
a phone number so I called it to be sure. The guy who answered said
that it was only 1:30 but said tours could be scheduled by
appointment. I said I was at the jail now, so he was kind enough to
drive over from his office a couple of blocks away and show me
around. |

community museums. |

profile? That is what used to be there but the paint has chipped
away and faded. Kind of looks like she has Princess Leia hair buns. |

| The upstairs used to have cells as well
but it was converted to living space for the jailer and his family. |

| I always wonder how couples have sex
when they share sleeping quarters with their children. I guess they
can do it somewhere else. |

| This was not originally a cupboard, as
evidenced by the bars. I was a back entrance that led to stairs
behind the jail. There was an escape once when a prisoner broke out
that bottom bar and somehow squeeze through the opening. |

| I didn't drive around town much, but I
spotted this old theatre. |

ugly weather. Could be worse. It is Kansas, known for tornadoes.

| Spent the night in Pittsburg. The
difference between the city in Kansas and the one in Pennsylvania is
the 'h'. That and the three rivers, the pro sports, pirogues, the
steel industry and all the people. |

| Nice hotel, probably the best on the
trip. |
 |
| What Pittsburg does have is chicken
restaurants. When deciding where to eat, there were lots of chicken
joints from which to choose. Chicken Mary's which was on the
outskirts of town kind of in the middle of nowhere was rated tops on
TripAdvisor. It was quite good and you get a lot. Just about
everyone I saw at the register was holding a take-away box. |
