FRIDAY
COUNTY DONEGAL

There were a few little things I wanted to see before getting to the B&B. They were a little tricky to find though. This is the Grianán Ailigh.
Big wall, little door.
It's an Iron Age fortress. There were two men and a boy kicking a soccer ball around on the grass and a little girl climbing around the rings.
These are the steps up the rings. I was worried I'd fall, but apparently the adults kicking the ball weren't concerned about the girl going up and down these things.
The road back down the hills.
Raphoe Castle or Bishop's Palace was built in the 1637 and has seen better days. It's an example of what I saw quite a bit of over there. Just old castles and church ruins standing in the middle of nowhere or on a street in a town like it was as common as a Starbucks.
Cars parked at the castle gate. Unfortunately there was no access to the castle that I found.
I had to take a little walk up to the last of the sites I saw that afternoon.

Just south of Raphoe is this Beltany stone circle.

It's not as old or as big or as famous as Stonehenge, but it is there.
I don't know where this path leads, but as it was starting to getting a little darker I half expected to see a little girl in a red cape and a wolf chasing her.
The Arches Country House.
Noreen, the owner, told me that there would be a wedding party also staying there that night. If they got in late and drunk, I didn't hear them.
The center of Donegal Town at night.
Dinner was at La Bella Donna restaurant.
