KANSAS CITY
| Rather than just check in at the hotel and rest for the evening, I decided to take in a ball game. The Royals were home and I had never been to an American League baseball game before, so why not? I didn't make it to my seat until the middle of the second inning. Traffic was rough getting into the parking lot and then I had to buy a ticket. | ![]() |
| The famous fountains and waterfalls in the outfield at Kauffman Stadium. | ![]() |
| It's a pretty nice park. It opened in 1973 but went through a renovation in 2009. | ![]() |
| Like so many ballparks these days there are statues of team greats. This one is also a Florida State University great, Dick Howser. | ![]() |
| When in Kansas City, what else can you eat but barbeque? I had a nice brisket sandwich at Sweet Baby Ray's at the stadium. | ![]() |
| I had just gotten a new camera a few weeks before the trip so this is my first experience with it. This one has a much better zoom than my old one as is evidenced by this photo. | ![]() |
| The ballpark has had a giant scoreboard shaped like the Royals logo since it opened, though it is a lot nicer now. | ![]() |
| There's a little Royals museum there as well. It's free so you don't have to tell me twice. | ![]() |
| The Kansas City Royals celebrated their first American League pennant in 1980. They lost the World Series that year to the Philadelphia Phillies (heh). | ![]() |
| But they beat the St. Louis Cardinals five years later. | ![]() |
| The fountains up close and personal. | ![]() |
| Kauffman Stadium and Arrowhead Stadium share a stadium complex. I took this picture to see how the new camera handles dim light. My sister has a Sony camera that she took on our trip to the U.K. and her night pictures came out great without flash. So when I got a new camera I also got a Sony. I took the photo at around 9:00 and it really is not this bright out. | ![]() |
