DAY 2 - MUNICH
NYMPHENBURG PALACE

Here's another one of those funny little Smart Cars.
There is a long canal called Schlosskanal leading up to...

...Nymphenburg Palace. It is huge, as is evidenced by this panoramic photo.

This is the great hall. Nice, eh? It's good to be the king.
A fresco on the ceiling.
Here is the bedroom of the queen. It was here that King Ludwig II was born.
Another fancy painting on the ceiling.
Another bedroom.
The view from the back of the center main building to the backyard. It's good to be the king.
A look back at the palace.
The Magdalenenklause was completed in 1728. It looks like a ruin because it was built to look that way. It is a place for religious contemplation.
The park behind the palace is massive.
It's so massive that a small summer residence and hunting lodge called Amalienburg was built. It is pink, but it was built for Maria Amalia, the wife of Elector Karl Albrecht, aka Holy Roman Emporer Charles VII Albert.
The hall of mirrors in Amalienburg.
The kitchen with beautiful tilework.
The bedroom. That's me in the mirror taking the photo.
I guessing that is Emperor Chuck himself.
And the missus.
In the southern wing of the palace is the Marstallmuseum. On display were a lot of the royal coaches and sleighs. This is the coronation coach of Charles VII used in Paris in 1721.
The second coronation coach of Maximillian I Joseph.
Ludwig II's dress sleigh and new dress coach.
This is an old indoor court merry-go-round. I don't know how it was powered. Perhaps servants had to turn it.
A child's indoor sleigh. "Be careful, little Ludwig! If you destroy any of our fancy things with your sleigh, it's coming out of your allowance!"
A music sleigh. I suppose musicians sat on the padded benches and played for the king and queen.
The hearse used for both Queen Marie Therese and Crown Prince Rupprecht.
There are a lot of cigarette machines around Munich. Then again there are a lot of smokers.
I've finally found Miss Wonderful.
