BANNACK - REXBURG

Bachelor's Row was a dense row of small cabins just north of Main Street where miners used to live in the winter months.
The Methodist Church was built in 1877.
The jails of Bannack. The small one on the right was built in 1863 and was the first jail in what became the Montana Territory. If you were chained in the jail, the gallows were clearly visible through the barred window.
In 1874, realizing that the town needed a school, the Bannack Mason Lodge No. 16 built a combination lodge and school. The school was on the ground floor with the lodge upstairs.
The Bannack School existed for over seventy years, closing in the early 1940's.
The Bannack Historic Lodge #3-7-77 is active and has members from around the world who help with preservation to this and other buildings at Bannack.
Doctor Ryburn's House.
The doctor practiced in Bannack from 1897 to 1915. He owned the first automobile in town.
If his patients did not have cash he would accept chickens, vegetables and other commodities as payment for services.
This was the site of Montana's first Governor's Mansion. This isn't it. The old residence was destroyed by fire in the early 1900's.

BYU-Idaho used to be called Ricks College. If you are a fan of the movie Napoleon Dynamite (and you should be), you will know that Ricks College was Valley of the Sun Bowl champion in 1981.
I spent the night in Rexburg because it was not too far from the west entrance to Yellowstone to be a long drive but also not too close as to have expensive hotels.

Apparently they have a challenge that if completed successfully will get you on the wall of fame and a free t-shirt. For each you have to consume the entire 1 lb. or 2 lb. burger, fries and drink in thirty minutes without leaving the table. Also the meal is free if you can do it. I just got my mushroom and Swiss burger and tots to go.
