MARYSVILLE - BLACKFOOT PATHWAYS
| Out early to take advantage of the warm sunny, um, nevermind. |

| Another dirt road... |

| Another ghost town. Actually Marysville is a semi-ghost town. Amidst the older abandoned structures are some currently-occupied homes. |
![]() |
| These are not currently occupied. The town was established in 1870. By 1900 Maryville was reported to be the richest gold mining area in the world with a production of $60 million, half of which was taken from the nearby Drum Lummon mine. |

| The Shaffer House. There was a sign. It was not that informative. It is currently used as a small museum. |
![]() |
| The Methodist Episcopal Church was built in 1886. It was abandoned in 1939 and near the point of collapse when it was purchased in 1967 and restored to the look of its former glory. |

| I had no cell coverage in Marysville and the sat-nav wasn't helping so I turned one way out of town. It was the wrong way, but I found a closed ski area where I managed to get a couple of bars and a route to my next destination. Given the snow on the ground, they could have stayed open a little longer. |

| I know I took a photo when I crossed the Continental Divide when I was in New Mexico, so I had to do it here too. |
![]() |
| It was originally going to be an
all-ghost town day, but that probably wasn't going to take a lot of
time. So I pulled off to this place I saw. It is the Blackfoot
Pathways sculpture park. This one is called Montana Memory. |

| Gateway of Change. I'll be honest, I don't really get some of this stuff. |
![]() |
| I kind of liked this one. It is called Ponderosa Whirlpool. |
![]() |
| Picture Frame. |
![]() |
| I recognized this particular piece of art. It is called Frisbee Golf. But really, there seemed to be a frisbee golf course that ran through the park. With all of the trees, it has to be a pretty hard course to play. |
![]() |
| I think this is a fairly new piece. I didn't note what it was called and it is not listed on the map. So let's just call it Broken Bridge or something. |
![]() |
| Seriously, just about anything can be called art. This zigzag ditch is called East West Passage. |
![]() |
| Hill and Valley. It is made of 30K lbs. of newspaper, 28 pine lodge poles and 400 lbs. of nails. But hey, it's art, right? |
![]() |
| I found this piece the most interesting of the lot. It is called Shipping Container with Pallets. Okay, it's not really a sculpture, but how different is it from the rest of the so-called art? |
![]() |
| That's not to say that some of this weird stuff didn't look interesting. Tree Circus looks like a wizard's house in the woods. |
