BOULDER CITY
|
Didn't stick around in Las Vegas
very long. Just long enough to pick up the rental and hit the road. I took
quite a few photos from behind the wheel like this one on the road between
Vegas and Boulder City where I would stay the night. |

|
The Boulder Dam Hotel was built in
1933 to accommodate visiting government and corporate bigwigs overseeing the
construction of the nearby dam. |
|
|
There are reports that the hotel
is haunted. My room was not. Oh, and there is no such thing as ghosts. |
|
|
But there is such a thing as a
pizza joint. This was an authentic place. I got a good meatball sandwich. |

The hotel had a nice lobby. Not
haunted though. And the complimentary breakfast in the restaurant was quite
good. The best English muffin I've ever had. |

|
The table at which I sat for
breakfast had clippings under the glass about the new Boulder Theatre in
1931. Well here it is. From the front page of the local paper (there were
several items about it), it was a big deal in this
little town. |
|
|
I like Boulder City. It seems like
it would be a nice place to retire. It's not too big or busy. There's a Vons
grocery store. The only nuisance would be all the tourists coming through
town driving between Las Vegas and the Hoover Dam. |

If we get a close up look we can
see the Colorado River in there, about eleven miles downstream of the Hoover
Dam. |
