NAVAHO RESERVATION AND GRAND CANYON (NORTH RIM)
I drove north a little
after leaving the park to see some more of the mesas and
buttes and whatnot. From left to right: Brigham's Tomb, King
on his Throne, Stage Coach, Bear and Rabbit, Castle Butte,
Big Chief. |
I didn't go too far. I
needed to head west toward the Grand Canyon again, so it was
through Monument Pass and back. |
I'm sure this has a name
too. |
There is something called
White Mesa in the area and this looks like a white mesa, but
I'm not able to confirm that this is it. |
Lake Powell, or probably
more accurately a finger of the lake. |
The Navajo Generating
Station. This is where they make all those Navajos. |
If I remember correctly
this is on the way through Antelope Pass. This would be
clearer except the camera decided to autofocus on the dead
bugs on the windscreen. |
Marble Canyon and the
good old Colorado River again. |
Those are the Vermillion
Cliffs. |
I suppose it wasn't just
the Jeep that got a lot of orange dust on it. |
Along the road down to
the North Rim there were a lot of these trees. It looks like
they were part of some controlled burn. |
Oh deer. |
Okay, so the view from
the North Rim looks a bit like the view from the South Rim. |
It's a long way down on
this side too. |
If nothing else, the
North Rim is a lot less crowded. |
Sunset in the desert. |
I got upgraded to a suite
for some reason at the Falcon Ridge Hotel. I wonder if it is
because I was wearing my Trip Advisor cap when I checked in. |
It's not a bad hotel with
a nearby golf course. It is in Mesquite, Nevada. I knew I
was back in the Silver State when I saw casinos again. |
