London to Dunkeld
| This is the car we hired. It is a Vauxall Vectra. Yeah, I don't know what the hell that is either. In America it would be a midsize 4-door coupe. In the U.K., this is a freaking stretch limo compared to the little deathtraps most people drive over there. | ![]() |
| This is a big rock. It has no significance, except that it is on the border between Scotland and England. It says "England" on this side and "Scotland" on the other side. It may have been placed there by the guy who runs the sandwich trailer at the border so that tourists would stop, take a picture of the rock and maybe buy a sandwich or a hot beverage or something. We did the first two. | ![]() |
| This is a big empty space in the Scottish Borders. There are a lot of these. This is a good example of the weather in Scotland in September. Cool, damp and overcast. But that is always subject to change. |

| This is the ruins of a either a castle or a cathedral in Jedburgh, I think. (I probably should have paid more attention.) Mary, Queen of Scots used to hang around here a lot in her day. | ![]() |
| This is beautiful downtown Jedburgh. Not much to say about this town except that it is one of the first towns that you come to when you come into Scotland (depending upon you're route), so I guess they get their share of tourists. On the left is Peter Hogg's home entertainment shop. On the right is a fish and chip shop. | ![]() |
| There was really no reason to take
a picture of this tearoom, called the Penny Farthing. However, if you look closely at the
sign above the window, the "h" in "Farthing" has pretty much broken
away, leaving a sign that says "Penny Fart ing." Beavis : Hey, Butthead. It says "farting". Heh, heh. Butthead : Yeah, that's cool. |

| This is Thirlestane
Castle. Actually it's only the middle part. It was originally built in the 13th
century as a fort and rebuilt in the 16th century as a stately home where the Earls and
Duke of Lauderdale used to hang out. Below is what the whole place looks like. I
couldn't get far enough away to get a shot of the whole thing.
