Stratford-upon-Avon

Here we are in William Shakespeare's hometown, Stratford-upon-Avon. Okay, more quaint stuff here. Well, it was really only quaint in the center of town pictured here. Driving into town, we drove past suburbs with new houses that look like any suburbs over here.
Ah, American culture strikes deep into the heart of English heritage. Yes, it's the downtown Stratford-upon-Avon McDonalds! Old Bill used to stop by here for a Ye Old Big Mac and fries when he would get writer's block.
This is a statue of a fool. It has no historical significance. In fact, it's not that old. It has lines from some of Shakespeare's plays inscribed on the base. I just liked it.
This is where old Billy was born. It's his dad's old house. It's fairly big for such an old house. John was a pretty well-off glove maker.
Mr. Shakespeare's backyard. The building in the background holds the official Shakespeare's birthplace gift shop, faithfully restored to look exactly as it did in the 16th century. Of course all the Shakespeare related gift items were a lot cheaper back then.
John and Mary were apparently having some work done to the back of the house.
Ding dong. River Avon calling. There were several longboats in the river. Theoretically, you could stay on the river and never have to leave. They have a hotel boat, a restaurant boat and a brothel boat. (I'm just kidding. There was no restaurant boat.)
