LIVERPOOL TO
CHESTER
We wandered away from the Albert Dock to walk around town a bit.

This is the real Mathew Street.

This is where the entrance to the original Cavern Club was located. It was closed in 1973 and filled in during work on the Merseyrail underground.

The current Cavern Club is across the street from the old one. It was reopened in 1984.

The Liver bird is the symbol of Liverpool. There are statues atop the towers on the Royal Liver Building and it is featured in the crest of Liverpool FC.

To my knowledge the Beatles never had a song about jellybeans. The closest I can think of are the sweeties mentioned in "Savoy Truffle".

I usually show you houses where I stayed on trips and I guess this qualifies. We "stayed" here for about a half hour or so waiting for the owner to show up before walking down the street to see Paul McCartney's childhood home.

20 Forthlin Road was a few blocks away from the B&B. It was one of the reasons I wanted to stay there. John Lennon's childhood home was a little farther away in a different direction, but we never got there.

After returning to the house to wait a little longer for the owner we decided to fill up the tank in the Volvo and stop by the Tesco. It is a bit like a Super Walmart with groceries and clothes and stuff. I hate Walmart and probably wouldn't much care for Tesco.

The proprietor of the B&B finally shown up as we were going to return to leave a note saying we were going elsewhere. As it turns out she screwed up my reservation for a twin room and offered two other non en suite rooms. That was about it for us, so we decided to leave and head farther down the road on the route we would have taken the next morning. We managed to find this Travelodge on the outskirts of Chester.

At this point after being aggravated by the B&B experience, the Travelodge was a welcome if fairly unremarkable place to stay. It was cheaper than the B&B would have been.

Actually the mess in Liverpool had some unexpected benefits. If we had stayed there we wouldn't have eaten at the Toby Carvery attached to the hotel. The meal was pretty good (the beef was dry and rather fatty) but the clotted cream cheesecake I had for dessert was fantastic.
