LONDON
| The last stop on the trip was the Jury's Inn at Heathrow Airport. |
![]() |
| It's no Ritz Carlton, but it was pretty nice for an airport hotel. |
![]() |
| And what a spectacular view! |
![]() |
| We had one thing planned for the day and that was a football match. There is a tube station right near the hotel so we got on to get into the city. The problem was that the Piccadilly Line was closed at Acton Town Station. They were running buses between the Acton Town and Hammersmith stations. |
![]() |
| The trip on the tube between those stations would ordinarily take a couple of minutes. The bus took an hour. |
![]() |
| And it was rather warm in the upper deck. Part of the trip took us through Chiswick. My step-sister Cathy used to live down that road over there. |
![]() |
| Finally made it to Hammersmith Station. |
![]() |
| They must have been replacing track on the closed section. |
![]() |
| This train was just one loooooong train with no visible separation between cars. |
![]() |
| When I was last at BBC Television Centre, which is now closed, I didn't realize that just in the neighborhood behind it was... |
![]() |
| ...Loftus Road Stadium. This is the first time I took in two matches on one trip. |
![]() |
| Loftus Road first became the home grounds for Queens Park Rangers in 1917. |
![]() |
| Blackpool scored an early goal, which put my undefeated record to the test. I was fairly tense for most of the rest of the match. |
![]() |
| Fortunately QPR scored an equalizer in the 78th minute which held to the end of the match. I'm sure the rest of the crowd weren't too happy with a draw against an inferior Blackpool side, but my sister and I were happy. So now my record stands at 6-3-0. I'm still undefeated. In fact, the three draws were all London clubs, Brentford twice and QPR once. |
![]() |
| Nothing else on the agenda but to find some dinner and wander about a bit. This is Baker Street Station. |
![]() |
| My sister wanted to go by Regents Park and take pictures of some flowers, so we did. |
![]() |
| A father and son practicing cricket in the park. |
![]() |
| My rule is that when on vacation I don't eat at any place I could at home. I had never heard of Nando's and I knew we didn't have any in Nashville. It's actually a South African chain of restaurants. There are some in the U.S. but they are all in the D.C. - Baltimore area. |
![]() |
| I had never walked around London at night before. The London Eye and County Hall were lit up in blue. |
![]() |
| The Clock Tower at Westminster was lit green. |
![]() |
| Westminster wasn't as lit up as I would have liked for a better picture. There's a whole section not lit at all. |
![]() |
| I quite liked the Thames at night. |
![]() |
| St. Margaret's Church and Westminster Abbey. |
![]() |
| The queen didn't seem to be home that night. |
![]() |
| But this queen, ol' Victoria, is always there. |

SUNDAY
LONDON
| And that's about it. This is Sunday morning at Heathrow waiting for our flight. |
![]() |
|
Let me tell you something. The best potato chip (crisp over there) is this,
Walkers' prawn cocktail. I had several bags on the trip and this was the
last one. There are no prawns in it, just cocktail sauce flavoring. And on that tasty bombshell, it's time to end the show. |
