SUNDAY
PUERTO RICO

Plaza Colón has a statue of Christopher Columbus.
Antiguo Casino de Puerto Rico was built in 1917 as a social club. It later became an officers' club during World War II and then a music school. It seems to be used for event space these days.
Castillo San Cristóbal
I could not find out what this was. I like the facade anyway, whatever it is.
The lettering on the front of the building says "US Navy Radio Station". I have no idea if it is still used or what it is now.
We left Old San Juan and drove through some more modern parts of town. There were several murals around this area.
Here are some.
I imagine that the people who did this one did not suffer from acrophobia.
Some views looked like South Florida.
A drive by the beach.
Felix stopped at Restaurante Hipi Cache and got us some of items of local Puerto Rican cuisine to sample. There was a bacalaíto (codfish fritter) and an alcaprria (meat-filled fritter). They were good, hot and fresh out of the fryer.
A look down C. Avenue Boca de Cangrejos.
Here's the gang and Felix.
The sea was angry that day, my friends, like an old man trying to send back soup at a deli.
There is an honest-to-goodness cockfighting arena in San Juan. Felix says that it isn't as cruel as illegal cockfighting, with rules and equipment and such.
Can't have vacation photos without one of a gas station.
This wsa the home of Bailey Ashford, a pretty important person in the history of Puerto Rico. As a doctor, he helped eastablish the School of Tropical Medicine and greatly reduced the mortality rate from anemia.

The house is pink. John Cougar Mellencamp would be happy.
Here the gang without Felix in the obligatory pre-boarding photo. That's a lot of grey hair there.
For some reason I forgot to take a picture of the cabin, but this is the view forward from the balcony before we left.
We drove past this Ferris wheel on the drive from the airport to the hotel the night before.
The lights of San Juan as we were departing the port.
Castillo San Filipe del Morro at night. It was darker than this. I took this with a longer exposure, which gave it a weird glow from behind.

TO TORTOLA
