DAY 6

BRUGGE
| The building on the left is the College of Europe. |
![]() |
| The tower of the Church of Our Lady. |
![]() |
| A little courtyard behind the church. |
![]() |
| See that tiny little window on the building on the right (just about the tree branch)? That was apparently used by the toll collector at this point on the canal. |
![]() |
| Inside the church. There were tombs and stuff behind the alter, but that part was closed. Belgium must be a country of barbers because everything seems to be closed on Sundays and Mondays. |
![]() |
| This statue of the Madonna is one of the few if not the only Michelangelo sculptures outside of Italy. |
![]() |
| I think this was an old hospital at one time. |
![]() |
| This is a school. The bell rang just before I took this photo. |
![]() |
| I took this photo just to note the architecture. You may have noticed these step gables on some of the other buildings as well. They were fairly popular in Belgium. Also, over the windows on this building (it is a little hard to see) are little scary faces. They are there to keep evil spirits from entering through the windows. This was before they invented alarm systems. |

| De Halve Maan (The Half Moon) brewery. They had a tour. I took it. |
![]() |
| Bags of barley. |
![]() |
| Hops. |
![]() |
| The tour took us to the roof of the building. That afforded me an opportunity for a couple of nice photos like this one. |
![]() |
| And this one. |
![]() |
| Big tubs where something happens to beer. Actually they don't make beer at this location anymore, but they did for hundreds of years until the 1970's. |
![]() |
| Fermenting vats. |
![]() |
| Old beer barrels. |
![]() |
| If your drug store has been around since 1835, they must be doing something right. |
![]() |
| My dinner location for the evening. I had Flemish stew. |
![]() |
| This was my view as I ate. |
![]() |
| The Belfort at night. |
![]() |
| They do some lighting job in this town. The buildings are beautiful bathed in auburn light. |
![]() |
| A bridge between buildings dated 1614 and 1608. |
![]() |
| This is the same photo spot as before during the day. |
![]() |
| There is the tower of Our Lady again. |
![]() |
| I took this photo from my hotel room window before turning in for the night. |
