DAY 4 - MUNICH
TSV 1860 MUNICH, MORE OLD TOWN

It was a slow day on Sunday. I had no plans other than the 1860 Munich match at 2:00 p.m. So I did a little laundry in the morning before heading out to the stadium. As you can see through the skylight in my room, it was a beautiful day.
I took this photo at the Trudering Station just to prove that there are dumbasses in other countries who spray paint buildings with crap.
I was in the same car on the train with this guy. He had a kilt of scarves around his waist.
The 1860 team shop. I bought a scarf to wear at the match and put on my wall at home.
There were many team photos of Bayern Munich on the walls of Allianz Arena. The two clubs share the stadium and they are far and away the better of the two. Poor 1860 Munich only had one photo of some long-ago player. I took this photo of the 1976 European Cup championship side because Gerd Muller (the fellow with the beard) played for the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in from 1979 to 1981.
Before the match, representatives from several fan groups went on the pitch to wave their big giant flags. Here the teams are coming on.

Click here for a short video of Germans shouting and chanting in Munich, not in an evil 1930's way but in a friendly 2000's way.
There was a section left empty between the 1860 Munich supporters and visiting Eintracht Braunschweig fans in the end stands. The people in the void are security. I'm not sure how much they were really needed. It's not like this is a heated rivalry. 1860 was having a down year and Braunschweig was at the bottom of the 2. Bundesliga table.
As I said, it was a slow day so I wandered about the old town area again. This statue of Prince Regent Leopold is on the Neues Rathaus.
Daily at 11:00 a.m. the glockenspiel at the Neues Rathaus performs a little musical performance. These days it pretty much a tourist thing. I was never at the Marienplatz at that hour, so I never saw these little guys dance around. But I've been to Walt Disney World and seen Audio-Animatronic figures do a lot more, so I don't see it as a great loss.
Ironically, this Altes Rathaus or Old Town Hall is newer than the Neues Rathaus or New Town Hall. Of course there is a reason for this. The Altes Rathaus building was completely flattened during WWII and was subsequently rebuilt.
Ever wonder what Jesus has been doing lately? Well he's opened a jewelry store in Munich.
This was too cute. The guy in the Sylvester head was playing the accordion and the little girl was just clapping and stomping away along with the music.
What did you call me? Well, at least you called me a brilliant one.
The Justizpalast (Palace of Justice) on the Karlzplatz.
If you are ever being chased by giant knives, be sure to run to the left. At least I think that's what the sign is trying to tell me.
I took a picture of an Austrian license plate, so...
Another statue of Maximillian.
This is a funky modern statue of Maximilian Joseph, count von Montgelas de Garnerin. He was the statesman in the early part of the 19th century who laid the groundwork for the establishment of a modern Bavaria.
I have no clue what this building is and I don't remember where I took the picture. The facade just looks old and fancy.
The Feldherrnhalle or Hall of the Commanders. It happened to be here that the sixteen Nazis were killed in the failed Nazi coup on November 9, 1923 (remember that from earlier?) called the Beer Hall Putsch.
A rugged guy with his flag, his gal and his pet lion. How butch!
The Residenz. This is where the Bavarian dukes, electors and kings lived. There is a museum inside but I didn't go in. The guide book said it was a bit pricey. Besides, when you've seen one palace, you've seen them all.
I was walking down the river when I saw this large building.
It is the Maximilianeum. It currently houses the Landtag of Bavaria, their unicameral legislature.
And there he is again, good old Max II.
Lederhosen! It's hard to believe people actually still wear this stuff, but I saw a couple of men doing just that.
I know it's not exactly German food, but the pizzeria is in Germany.

DAY 5 - DACHAU
