WEDNESDAY

LIVERPOOL
| The morning was taken up by a drive from Falkirk to Liverpool. As we approached the city center we could see the Royal Liver Building. By the way, it is pronounced with a long I, like lie-ver. |

| I'm sure there are other things in Liverpool to see, but for me it's basically just The Beatles. I had been here in 2001 but didn't get any pictures. You're going to see a lot of them now. |

| It's an old guitar owned by my favorite Beatle, George Harrison. |

| I think this is supposed to be a mockup of Mathew Street where The Cavern was located. |
![]() |
| And a replica of the stage at The Cavern like you see in old performance films. |
![]() |
| This is George's guitar from The Beatles' final performance at The Cavern. |

| This is the mellotron from the Abbey Road Studios. It would have been used during the recording of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Magical Mystery Tour. |

| John Lennon's mohair suit. When Brian Epstein became the manager of the group, he wanted the boys to have a more professional look. |

| And this is Paul McCartney's boater jacket and straw hat. The Beatles made an appearance in these outfits on the Morcambe and Wise Show. If you have seen the Beatles Anthology television show or listened to the CD's, it was the show where they were singing "Moonlight Bay". |

| Beatlemania would have been nothing without all the merchandise. I like the Beatles tie pins. |
![]() |
| And how good would the ladies look wearing Beatles stockings? |
![]() |
| Not a real grave but a prop from the video for "Free as a Bird", a really cool video with countless Beatles references. |
![]() |
| I know sometimes people make fun of Ringo, but I think keeping him in a glass box is just cruel. |
![]() |
| An authentic Yellow Submarine lunchbox and thermos. How cool is this? |
![]() |
| It would have been cool if this ticket had been for August 12, 1965, my birthday, but A Hard Day's Night came out in 1964, which was a year before I did. |

| After the main exhibition there was a section devoted to the post-Beatles era. This is Paul McCartney's contract for "Live and Let Die". |

| These are the orange-tinted spectacles John Lennon wore while composing "Imagine". |
![]() |
| Not to be depressing or anything, but these are original Associated Press bulletins received by radio stations following the shooting of John Lennon by that bastard Mark David Chapman on December 8, 1980. The first announced the uncertainty surrounding the incident, the second confirmed that Lennon was the victim and the third confirmed his death. You can make that last one out, "JOHN LENNON SHOT DEAD". |

| I suppose this book was given to Kath's mum by George as a gift or something. That must be why he signed it. |

| Okay, I will admit it. I don't like the song "Imagine". The tune is okay but the dopey lyrics are childish and insipid. I'll take "Instant Karma" over "Imagine" any day. |

| Hessy's Music Centre was a shop where Liverpudlians could buy instruments. One of those people was John Lennon who got his first guitar from Hessy's for £17. When Brian Epstein became the Beatles' manager, one of his first tasks was to settle the band's outstanding credit of £200 for their instruments. |
